The Ultimate Celebration at the Lion

So you have a grand occasion coming up and it’s getting closer and closer. You need to start planning, but where do you start?

Planning a party, whether it be for 10 guests or 100 guests, can be stressful indeed! From a guest list with food intolerances and dietary requirements to theme ideas, suitable venues, dress codes, the list goes on. Sounds like you need a party planner. Or just our checklist and top tips (unlike a party planner, it’s free!)

Here at the Lion, we know planning a party can be a bit overwhelming, but that’s why we’re here. Our guide will help you step by step until everything becomes a piece of cake. Yes, that pun is intended.

From big birthday bashes to engagement parties and milestone events, we’ll help you get this party started!

Step One: What’s the Occasion?

It’s important to know the occasion so you can plan the party around this factor. For example, Grandma’s 80th birthday might be better suited to afternoon tea on the terrace, whereas Holly’s 21st might be more of an evening dinner party with friends and lashings of tremendous tipples!  The occasion can also help set the theme (if you want one), which of course, is like the spine of an event that everything hinges off, such as the décor, the entertainment, the food, the music, and so on.

Step Two: Decide Your Budget, Food & Drink

Are you paying for everything? Or is your party expected to pay for their food or drinks? Choosing the right budget will determine the above and keep you on track. Here at the Lion, we offer a specially selected three-course party menu for groups of 8 plus. It’s a great way to help control spending, whilst also allowing guests to choose what they might fancy eating. The success of every adult party certainly relies on what there is to drink. You wouldn’t only want to serve red wine (unless your theme is a red wine party of course!) It’s best to cater to all your guests’ needs, but where do you start?! We recommend the fantastic four selections: wine, beer, a soft drink, and spirit/tonic combo.

Step Three: Book & Invite

If you decide to host your party at the Lion, we have a variety of private rooms for your to choose from. The Lavender Room, seats up to 25 guests on one long table, banquet style. The Gallery is more suited for intimate gatherings and is a semi-private room above the Cottage room. The Gallery seats up to 12 guests. The Cottage, situated at the end of the bar, past the restaurant seats up to 50 guests. Give us a call or email us today to find out more about these event spaces.

Once you’ve set your venue and dates, it’s time to send out the invites! Paper invites are an option, but if you don’t know all your friend’s addresses, then might we recommend a telephone call, or creating a group chat with all your guests. Or if you’re social media savvy, create a private event and add your Facebook friends.

Step Four: Get Ready

Once you’ve sent out your invites and got your RSVPs, don’t forget to send your guests the menu so they can choose their courses. If you’re able to get your guests to pre-order each course, that’s one less thing to do at the party! So you can sit back, relax and party! We’ll do the rest.
