Family-Friendly Things to Do in Bicester

Bicester, the historic market town, is situated northeast of Oxford and is one of Oxfordshire’s most attractive towns. Whilst Bicester might seem a quaint and sleepy town in Oxfordshire, there is plenty of fun to be had for the entire family.

Here are our top family-friendly things to do in Bicester:

  1. Bicester Farmers Market
A 16th-century farmers market in the centre of Bicester takes place every Friday. From 12 until 4 pm, local produce and craft are sold every week to local residents, business owners and tourists alike. Enjoy pastries and homemade bread, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables and organic meats.
  2. Bicester Heritage Site
Looking for something a little more educational? Want to learn about vehicle heritage? The unique location is the UK’s only hub for historic motoring excellence! Discover Bicester Heritage site, once RAF Bicester, now home to over 40 motoring businesses. A real spot for car and aeroplane enthusiasts alike. RAF Bicester was home to such legendary flying machines as the Hawker Hart, Bristol Blenheim and the first flight of the Handley Page Halifax four-engined bomber, the Royal Air Force’s first heavy bomber to enter production.
  3. Glebe Leisure and Fishing Lakes
A picturesque country location set on the borders of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. Glebe Leisure and Fishing Lakes is also a caravan, camping park but great for those who love to fish! At only £8 per person, per day with 2 rods (dawn until dusk), it’s a perfect day out for those who love to get back to nature.
  4. S&H Coffee & Gift Shop
Right in the heart of Bicester, S&H Coffee and Gift Shop sits quaintly in the market square. With a gorgeous selection of home-baked goodies, like Triple Chocolate Muffins and freshly baked scones, the coffee shop is open Monday to Saturday. The gift shop includes a selection of local crafts and vegan sweet treats, like Dark Chocolate and Orange Vegan Chocolate Bars, as well as home décor bits and bobs.
  5. Bowling
Who doesn’t enjoy a little bit of competitive fun?! A great trip out for family and friends, Bicester Leisure Centre Bowling Alley. Located on Queen’s Avenue, just outside Bicester town center, is 6 lanes of 10 pin bowling! At £11.50 for three games per adult, get your bowling shoes on and prepare to compete for the best bowler!

Getting Peckish?

If you work up an appetite whilst exploring Bicester, pop over to the Lion, a quick 10 minute drives away. All week long, treat yourself to some seriously tremendous tipples and scrumptious seasonal fare! If you’re looking for something cozy, curl up in the bar area, next to the roaring fire. If you’re after a bit of romance, dine by candlelight in the Cub Cottage room. Got the whole family with you? Brothers and uncles, sisters and aunts? Take a look at hiring out the Gallery room, or if your family really is big, try the Lavender room.
